Erwin, a 58 year old veteran, found himself without a home and unable to maintain employment due to multiple disabilities. Erwin was staying at a local homeless shelter when he heard of a program through Economic Security Corporation that might be able to assist him with housing. He met with an Outreach Worker who completed an Intake, Assessment and Referral and he was eligible for the program. He was able to obtain permanent housing by receiving assistance with rent and deposits. He was assigned a case manager and together, they worked on life skills, such as budgeting. Erwin was eventually approved for disability which provided him enough income to pay his bills. They were also able to find resources in the community that could help him work towards his goal of being self-sufficient. Erwin continues to be stably housed and now receives monthly assistance with his housing through the Housing Authority of the CIty of Joplin.
